Historical Notes

Casale Voltoncino and its history

The "Voltoncino" is a Maremma farmhouse in Tuscany which has been mentioned in historical documents as far back as the mid-1700s.

It is located between the two historical strongholds of the Spanish Royal Presidia: Orbetello and Talamone. The Spanish government was followed by that of the Grand Dukes of Tuscany who attempted to reclaim the marshy land of the Maremma area and make it habitable, it being infested with malaria until after the Second World War.

At the end of the 1800s the Amadori family moved there from Casentino and the estate prospered thanks to the breeding of local Maremma cows and horses and the cultivation of wheat.
